Where would I want POLD’s placed in my home?

POLD’s are great for any high-risk or high-value area, e.g. upstairs washing machine, water heater in the attic, refrigerator/icemaker, art gallery, or area with valuables that you don’t want to take the chance of them getting wet, etc.

How will I know when one of my POLD’s has alarmed?

When the POLD detects moisture, both the POLD and control panel will audibly alarm. Additionally, if you have a control panel that is connected to WiFi, you will receive a text and/or an email notifying you of the alarm.

How do I know whether I need POLD’s or a Leak Defense System (shutoff valve), or both?

Where does your hot water come from? If it’s from a water heater specific to your home/condo, then you can have any combination of devices: Leak Defense System, POLD’s, or both. If your hot water is from a central boiler that supplies multiple units (not just yours), then you will want only POLD’s, as you are not able shut off water to only your unit.

How do I know which of my POLD’s is alarming?

The sensor itself will audibly beep and a message will appear on the control panel detailing which POLD has alarmed e.g. “POLD #1”. Additionally, if you have a control panel that is connected to WiFi, you will receive a text and/or an email notifying you of the alarm.

How do I reset an alarm triggered by a POLD?

Once you have confirmed that there are no active leaks, slide the battery cover off the back of the POLD to access the reset button. Hold the reset button for 5 seconds before replacing the back cover and resetting the alarm from the control panel. The POLD must be reset before the control panel.

I have an existing Leak Defense System. Can I add POLD’s, and if so, how?

If your system was purchased in 2018 or later then wireless POLD’s can be added to your existing system. If your LDS was purchased before 2018 then you can add wired POLD’s with an LDS-3 or LDS-2 API depending on your unit.

How far can the POLD be from the control panel and still maintain a connection?

Since each home varies in levels of insulation, we recommend keeping the POLD within 100’ of the control panel. This can easily be tested upon installation to make sure there is communication.

Can I have my home security notified when one of my POLD’s alarm?

Yes, so long as you have an LDS-3 API (Alarm Panel Interface). You will need a technician from your security provider to connect the Alarm Panel Interface to your existing home security system.

Does installing POLD’s require a plumber or electrician?

No, the control panel will need to be plugged into a non-switch non-GFI outlet and each sensor is powered by 2 AAA batteries.

How long do the batteries last in the POLD’s? Will I be notified when the batteries need to be replaced?

Expected battery life is 2 to 3 years but may vary depending on conditions. When battery life has dropped below a certain level the control panel and app will display low battery notifications and the control panel will beep periodically.

How many sensors can I put in my house and still be notified when they alarm?

Up to 15 POLD’s can be handled on one control panel.
